Telkom Unblock Netflix This Week?

KOMPAS.com – Rumors of the Telkom Group that will unblock Netflix streaming video services are blowing hard. The news will most likely be realized in the near future.

The reason, a source who knows this problem told KompasTekno that Telkom will unblock Netflix in the first week of July 2020.

That means, all Telkom Group network customers, including Telkomsel and IndiHome, will be able to enjoy Netflix services through their respective networks in the next few days. When confirmed, Telkom itself still failed to provide certainty.

“We will wait. Yes, it will be delivered later,” he said Vice President Corporate Communication Telkom, Arif Prabowo via text message on Wednesday (1/7/2020) to KompasTekno.

Some time ago, Telkomsel’s President Director, Setyanto Hantoro, had indeed revealed the plan to unblock Netflix services by the Telkom Group. The man, who is familiarly called Anto, said the blocking would be carried out in “a matter of weeks”.

“We are in the process of having a serious talk with Netflix, heading that way, in the direction we allow our customers to access Netflix from the Telkom Group network,” Anto said in a statement to KompasTekno, Thursday (11/06/2020).

Reason for unblocking

Anto said that there were several reasons that eventually made the Telkom Group softened to unblock Netflix. One of them is the feature parental control or parental control on the Netflix service.

With this feature, parents or other users can use a PIN to lock profiles and filter content.

The PIN lock facility can be used to secure a profile so that it cannot be accessed by other people using the same account, for example so that a parent’s profile cannot be opened by a child.

“We see that Netflix has changed, there is parental control, a lot of work with local content producers, there is takedown policy “which is better than before, so we are in the process of talking seriously with Netflix heading there (unblocking),” Anto said.

Takedown Policy became one of the toughest discussions between Telkom Group and Netflix. Telkom has requested that Netflix be willing to reduce shows within 24 hours, if there are complaints from customers.

Service provider on-demand video streaming others like Hooq and iFlix that used to be-bundling with the IndiHome cable internet package made by Telkom it is said to be covering this policy.
