Mary Kay Letourneau taught in the sixth grade of a primary school in Seattle. She was arrested in 1997 for a sexual relationship with one of her students, 12-year-old Vili Fualaau.
The abuse case came to light when the police received a tip. A witness is said to have seen the teacher with her student in a van while they were having sex. Letourneau was convicted of child rape when she was pregnant.

Wedding
When she was released after six months in prison for good behavior, she became pregnant again with Fualaau. She then had to go back to prison because the judge had forbidden her to see him again.

After eventually serving a prison sentence of over seven years, she married Fualaau in 2005. The children, Alexis and Georgia, acted as bridesmaids at their parents’ wedding.
Separation
The couple broke up in 2017, although the divorce was only completed in August last year. At the start of the affair with Fualaau, Letourneau was 34 years old, married and already mother of four.
