Surprisingly clear: CDU man Balcerowski becomes the new district administrator in the Harz

At home with the Balcerowskis it is always lively. “It never gets boring with four children,” says Thomas Balcerowski, who likes to travel in the Harz Mountains with his family. And “the children are number one and determine what is done”. His family is for the 48-year-old calm and power pole alike, which “gives him many moments of happiness.” For professional compensation – as mayor Thomas Balcerowski has been leading the city of Thale for years – he can clear his head with jogging or kick football with friends. Speaking of football: the lawyer with two state exams in his pocket is a “fan of the best German team”. He answered the question of whether he was a gourmet with a clear yes and no. “I am simply a normal person and am happy about a grilled schnitzel at home with friends over a glass of beer – and that you can talk about God and the world.”

The Harz district is economically well positioned, says Thomas Balcerowski. “But dark clouds are emerging, not only due to the corona crisis, but also due to the change in mobility.” He alludes to the automotive supply industry in the Harz Mountains and asks, “How many auto parts do we have in the electric car that come from the Harz Mountains?” One of his main tasks as district administrator would be to drive these dark clouds away and to help companies as administrators. And the administration must become more citizen-friendly. This is a service to the citizen, and with this view CDU man Balcerowski questions dialogue, accessibility and service quality. There is “a lot of room for improvement.”
