Sony patent evokes PS1, PS2 and PS3 retro for PS5

Sony may not have told us everything about the backward compatibility offered by its next home console.

While Sony has repeatedly confirmed that a large majority of PlayStation 4 games will be compatible on PlayStation 5, the manufacturer has been rather discreet about games from older generations. However, we discover today that all is not lost, following the online publication of a new patent imagined by Sony engineers.

The latter explains that PS1, PS2 and PS3 games could be stored in a cloud library and launched on the next Sony console via a virtual machine that mimics the console operating system from which they originated. Basically, the Sony console could eventually play games in the history of the brand to the delight of players.

Following the discovery of this new patent, we are anxious that Sony will clarify things.
