Seine-Saint-Denis: the Caf releases aid for families in difficulty

Struck by mourning, faced with a brutal drop in income, do we think about asking for all the help? In Seine-Saint-Denis, as elsewhere, the Family Allowance Fund can offer the most modest families significant financial and social support.

And even if its family branches are still closed, it will soon be possible to meet with a counselor again, by making an appointment by phone beforehand. In the meantime, procedures are still possible by telephone and the Internet.

Support for bereaved families

However, the Caf can unlock specific aids. It has thus relaxed its allocation criteria for the payment of death assistance (for beneficiaries who have lost a spouse or a child). “When the family declares the death, we trigger social accompaniment and an assessment of the” living-to-live “of the home,” said Aminata Maïga, director of benefits and service to the recipient at Caf 93.

Echoing the excess mortality that struck the department, in connection with the coronavirus, the organization paid 174 aids to bereaved families between mid-March and mid-May, for an average amount of € 1,043. This is three times more than last year over the same period.

664 families received emergency assistance

To give an extra boost to families who have lost resources, the Caf has also set up emergency financial assistance, up to a maximum of € 650. Please note, this is not the exceptional bonus – of € 150 – announced by President Macron and paid on May 15 to low-income families (157,000 households affected in 93).

A thousand people have already requested it, and 664 grants have been allocated. “In 54% of cases, they are single parents with one to six children,” says Aminata Maïga. Beneficiaries who have lost resources can apply with the help of an association, a social worker, or directly by Internet and telephone. The processing time is quite fast: 5 to 10 days.

Up to 600 telephone appointments per week

While waiting to be able to push the door of an agency, you have to make up your mind to speak to the advisers by phone, by making a prior appointment on the caf.fr website, or on the interactive terminals available outside the agencies. , or… by phone on 0 810 25 93 10. The Caf thus opens 600 appointment slots per week, which are rarely completely filled. The 904 Caf staff at 93 are also preparing for a gradual reopening of the premises.

The organization, which distributes some € 2.4 billion each year to 370,000 beneficiaries in the department, anticipates a “larger flow” of requests and files to be processed, when the beneficiaries return to the agencies. As of May 11, queues had formed in front of some of them.
