Romanov to join CH | VAT News

Latest developments in the Alexander Romanov case: the young defender will train with the Montreal Canadiens during phase 3 of the National Hockey League (NHL) return to play protocol.

This was announced by the CH, Sunday evening, by revealing the list of 33 players invited to training camp.

Romanov will not be able to play in a Bettman Circuit playoff game this summer, but he can at least get a taste of the NHL.

As of Monday noon, the Canadians will have a 53-hour window to reach an agreement with the Russian on the terms of an entry contract starting in 2019-2020. By burning the first of the three years of the agreement, the CH would allow Romanov to train with the team during the qualifying round and the rest of the series (if applicable …).

TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie expects the team to decide.

If he does not sign his entry contract with the Habs by the end of the 53-hour window, Romanov will have other options. He could come to an agreement with a European lineup to start playing as soon as possible, but it is unclear at this time if this would make him ineligible for the 2020-2021 NHL season.
