The Beatles hits that ran during the live broadcast party included “Come Together,” “All You Need is Love” and “With a Little Help From My Friends”. The live show on the Internet was followed by around 130,000 fans.
Starr usually hosts real parties on his birthdays, with the physical presence of celebrities and hundreds of fans, as well as live musical performances. This year he decided not to because of the corona pandemic.
Starr sat behind drums during the show and wore a colorful respirator with the peace sign emblazoned on it. To the disappointment of many fans, there was no virtual encounter with his former Beatles colleague Paul McCartney.
For the finale of the show, Starr only ran an archive recording from Los Angeles from the previous year in which he played “Helter Skelter” with McCartney.
Starr and McCartney are the only two survivors of the “Fab Four” who revolutionized pop history. John Lennon was shot in New York in 1989 by a mentally disturbed assassin, and George Harrison died of cancer in 2001.
