The return of the Easter excursionists from the region to Attica has started since the morning with increased traffic on the entrance to the Athens-Corinth National Highway.
In particular, vehicles move at low speeds from Agioi Theodorou to Megara, while small delays are also noted at the Elefsina toll road. On the contrary, the return from the Athens-Lamia national road is progressing without problems.
A vehicle caught fire just outside the tunnel on the National Highway of Patras – Corinth in the direction of Corinth at the height of Derveni, while there are no reports of any injuries, as a result of which traffic was stopped at the scene and queues of kilometers were created. 9 firefighters rushed to the scene with 3 vehicles to extinguish the fire.
Delays in Pieria and Malgara
Drivers heading towards Thessaloniki are forced to leave the highway just before Katerini and use side roads, since the specific section of PATHE at the borders of the capital of the Regional Unit of Pieria, remains closed.
However, suffering is also encountered in Malgara, due to the works being carried out at the height of the Axios bridge.
Specifically, several hundred meters before the toll station in the area there is a traffic jam, since the passage of vehicles, although without a charge, is carried out by only two traffic lanes. In fact, a few meters later, the tolls end up becoming one, while the situation “relaxes” around the height of Chalastra.
According to the traffic data, from 6 am to 6 pm today, 52,431 vehicles have returned to Attica, specifically 30,100 vehicles from Athens-Corinth and 22,331 from Athens-Lamia.
The Traffic has implemented increased measures throughout the country’s road network, with the aim of the safe movement of citizens and the prevention of traffic accidents.
It is reminded that until 22:00 at night in the entrance stream there is a ban on the movement of car trucks with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tons.
