Restoration of the pavement on the highway Talsi – Dundaga – Mazirbe – Road and law – Car begins

As part of the construction works, a leveling layer and surface treatment will be laid, as well as road surfaces and bus stop platforms will be repaired. The works are planned to be completed by mid-August.

Construction works are performed by SIA Saldus ceļinieks for a contract price of 819,657 euros (including VAT). Construction works at this stage are carried out with additional funding of 75 mln. within the euro.

As we have already informed, the additional 75 million euros, which the government decided on 28 April to allocate for the improvement of state roads, will be invested in the improvement of the pavement of the country’s main and regional roads, as well as in several traffic safety projects. With these additional funds, construction works are planned at 71 state road objects, as well as in separate traffic safety improvement projects. A total of 595 kilometers of national highways and eight bridges will be arranged.

In total, out of 71 road and bridge objects, where it is planned to perform works for an additional 75 million euros, open procurements or price inquiries have already been announced for 68 objects within the framework of the general agreement. Among them, 14 contracts have already been concluded and a further 24 contracts are being signed.

The stages in which the repairs will be carried out were selected according to several criteria. First of all, the works planned for 2021 will start in some objects, but their technical documentation is already ready and repairs can start already this year. Given that additional funding of EUR 75 million is only available until 31 December this year, the investment will be invested in the renewal of coverage. The main criteria for the selection of sections were the technical condition of the roads and traffic intensity. Restoration of the pavement can be carried out in those stages that are in a relatively good technical condition, which can be significantly improved by restoring the pavement. The second important criterion was traffic intensity, so that the investment could serve the maximum number of road users.

Additional funding will also be directed to road safety improvement projects. Of these, it is planned to install acoustic ribbons on the Bauska highway in the section from the Riga bypass to Bauska, except for populated areas, as well as on the Valmiera highway in the section from Ragana to Valmiera. It is also planned to install safety barriers on about 20 kilometers of the country’s main roads. It is planned to install safety barriers also in those road sections that are very close to water bodies. By improving traffic organization, road signs and direction indicators will be restored on certain sections and junctions of the country’s main roads, which have served their time and are no longer sufficiently reflective, making them difficult to see. Funds will also be invested in the construction of two pedestrian and bicycle paths: in Murjāņi from the Gauja Bridge to Murjāņi Sports School and in Beberbeķi to divert the flow of pedestrians to a safe crossing over the Riga bypass (A5).
