Regional health agency: Free Covid-19 tests organized in Saint-Louis

In a prevention approach, the ARS La Runion is implementing, with the help of the voluntary municipalities, a campaign to detect covid-19 among the population as early as this week. The aim is to represent the appearance of new indigenous cases very early on, and to avoid chains of local transmission, informs the ARS. Awareness of the dengue epidemic will also be raised at the same time. We publish here the press release of the ARS. (Rb illustration photo / www.ipreunion.com)

The municipality of Saint-Louis is the first city to respond favorably and to join this approach. Residents are invited on 15 and 17 July to the fairground market place, where they will be able to access free covid testing. A dengue prevention operation is also planned on this occasion. This operation will later be deployed in other places on the island.

– Two meetings on July 15 and 17 Saint-Louis –

The ARS La Runion proposed to the municipalities to organize, with the laboratories, covid screening operations in the districts, in order to facilitate access to the tests, and to early identify possible circulation of the coronavirus. The Municipality of Saint-Louis was the first to respond favorably to this proposal, by associating this operation with raising awareness among the population about dengue. Other operations will be scheduled in the coming weeks in other municipalities.

Covid-19 screening

Access to covid tests is one of the essential challenges of containment. Also, the screening strategy is being amplified at La Reunion in order to avoid the spread of the virus in the island and to implement the necessary measures to stop any emerging local chain of transmission.

The objective of screening operations is to identify people with the virus and asymptomatic in order to trigger the search for people contacted for these positive cases and to promote their isolation.

Covid-19 testing is free, non-prescription, and confidential. The test will be carried out by RT-PCR screening which will make it possible to determine whether a person is carrying the virus at the time of the test, thanks to a nasal sample, and to implement the necessary measures (mainly person isolation) in the event of positive result.

It is done in the form of a nasal sample and can cause slight discomfort in the nose. It only lasts a few seconds. A sample is taken from the nose using a long cotton swab, called a broth. Once collected, the sample is sealed and then analyzed by the medical biology laboratory.

During the screening test, people must present their vital card and an identity document. Wearing a mask is compulsory.

• Awareness of dengue-related risks

In recent weeks, the circulation of dengue fever has been decreasing on the island. However, many towns on the island are still recording cases, especially in the south. The Municipality of Saint-Louis is one of the most affected cities.

Everyone must remain vigilant against dengue fever and continue to implement the prevention measures essential to protect themselves from the disease. An information stand will be held by the ARS Anti-Vector Control Service.

The ARS and the commune of Saint-Louis encourage the inhabitants to take part in the two operations which will take place on the place of the fairground markets:
– Wednesday July 15, Place Raymond Barre the ZAC Avenir from 7h 11.30am
– Friday July 17th, Place de l’glise la Rivire from 7h 11h30

– Continue the ARS / municipality of Saint-Louis partnership –

A Local Health Contract (CLS) will soon be signed between the ARS and the municipality of Saint-Louis. Its objectives will be to better meet the health needs of the population, by reducing territorial and social inequalities in the fields of health, prevention, care policy or even in medical and social support.

The shared action program will then be deployed, defined according to specific axes after a local health diagnosis.

As such, the distribution of mosquito repellents for residents in precarious situations will be organized in the coming months with the CCAS of Saint-Louis.
