Red Bull Racing objects to Hamilton not being penalized

Red Bull Racing has protested the decision to Lewis Hamilton not to be punished for ignoring the yellow flags during last Saturday’s qualifying session.

The Briton failed to slow down in his second fast lap in Q3 after teammate Valtteri Bottas with his Mercedes got into the gravel. Hamilton had to get on the carpet with the stewards and said that he could not see the yellow flag because of the large dust cloud that Bottas had caused. The race management agreed with this and decided not to hand out a penalty. However, Hamilton’s first fast lap was canceled in Q3, as he had crossed the track limits with all four wheels.

However, Red Bull Racing has now protested this decision. So, just over an hour before the Austrian Grand Prix starts, the incident will be re-examined. If the race management decides otherwise this time, Hamilton will be placed a number of places back on the grid. In front of Max Verstappen would this mean that he will start from second place.
