PS5: Neil Druckmann talks about what will change the next Sony console – News

Very present in the media for the release of The Last of Us Part II, Neil Druckmann spoke again, this time in the podcast hosted by Reggie Fils-Aimé, Talking Games. During the latter, he notably mentioned the changes that will be made by the PS5.

For about 50 minutes, the podcast allowed the vice-president of Naughty Dog to talk about the next Sony console, which he probably could have seen up close while working for a Sony studio. Obviously, the latter is quite complimentary on the machine but explains in detail why, in words that are reported to us by our colleagues from Gameblog :

At the end of a generation of consoles, (…) You always have the impression that you are trying to push back a series of walls and find the small flaws that will allow you to go a little further in terms of memory , processor, or hard drive speed. Starting a new generation is a bit like a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you have to develop new technology for new hardware and that can (be) difficult. On the other hand, you suddenly feel a freedom that makes you say “oh my god, we can breathe again! We can free ourselves from these constraints!” And one of the things that excites us the most is the SSD and what it implies in terms of almost invisible loads. (…) I’m very excited to see the doors that (the PlayStation 5) opens for us.

The latter goes on to indicate that the Naughty Dog teams are currently working to make the loading screens invisible once the game has started. This is a lot of work in terms of design, but, according to him, the players do not realize anything. Finally, he explains that the new hardware will allow designers to feel more free in terms of design, mentioning in particular the elements that may appear in the levels and the number of characters displayed.
