Ahead of a hard duel between City and Liverpool, Guardiola flattered Klopp to the sky.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admires the style of football Jurgen Klopp has brought to Liverpool by calling the game pressing and action-packed to benefit the world.
Guardiola’s troops defeated the Reds in the hunt for the title last season by one point, but in the next edition Klopp’s squad became a taste of English football with a landslide advantage.
Liverpool and Man City are now regarded as the two best teams of the highest caste of English football and every duel that occurs between them always spoil the eyes of fans.
Guardiola explained that he had a positive relationship with interpreters of tactics who were now the toughest rivals.
“Regarding human relations, I don’t know him well,” Guardiola said at a press conference. “We once had dinner together.”
“I admire Klopp, the way he handled Liverpool and Dortmund. The type of football produced by his team has always benefited the world of football.”
“Always trying to score is a big and positive thing and Jurgen is the right example. He wants to win and I want to win, but when the game ends, the game ends. He is my colleague and after my career is over, I want to have a good relationship with everyone manager.”
Asked if Man City needed to prove something in the match later, Guardiola added: “In sports you are required to always provide evidence. We are very satisfied with the work done but for athletes it is never enough.”
“The past is the past, only memories, then must be hunted down. This is a new chapter in our lives and we must undergo.”
Rivalry towards the Premier League championship ladder this season is over but City still have a chance to win the Champions League and FA Cup and Guardiola feels the best way to prepare for these two competitions is to gain momentum in the league.
“We still have to think about the Premier League,” he said. “Tomorrow is an important match and we want to look good against Liverpool and Southampton so that they are in the best condition against Arsenal in the FA Cup,” he continued.
“The best way to do this is to play well in the Premier League.”
