Ómar Ambuila, the Dian official implicated in a corruption scandal who was released due to expiration of terms, has now been provisionally suspended from his post.

This was revealed in a statement from the ITRC Agency of the Inspector General of Taxes, Income and Parafiscal Contributions, in which it is clarified that Ambuila, after recovering his freedom, could have returned to his position in the Customs Operation Management Division of the Sectional Directorate of Taxes and Customs
from Buenaventura.

And it is that Ambuila, in addition to answering for an alleged corruption case, will have to face a disciplinary investigation that the ITRC Agency opened, even if he is released.

The disciplinary investigations carried out by the ITRC Agency are related to an alleged unjustified increase in assets, which he apparently obtained by serving as a public servant of the Dian. The Agency provisionally classified the alleged lack of the investigated as very serious fraud.

The provisional suspension is for three months, since when he recovered his freedom, Ambuila requested the integration of his position in the Dian.

Said suspension is immediately carried out and is initially decreed by the disciplinary operator of first instance, who for that matter is the deputy director of Disciplinary Investigations and then goes on to be reviewed by the Agency Directorate as a hierarchical superior.

During this measure, Ambuila has no right to remuneration.

Last month, Diana Richardson Peña, director of the ITRC Agency, told El País that “the investigation shows, basically, that this man has enriched himself using the position. That is, the salaries he has earned as an official The public has not been able to explain the increase in assets that has been detected in the process. It is a quite considerable increase, for more than $ 600 million. It has not been able to explain how a public official, with an average salary of four or six million pesos, increases his heritage in the dimensions that he has done. We see, then, that he has used his role in office to enrich himself unjustifiably. “

Ambuila could be sanctioned with removal and inability to hold public office for between 10 and 12 years.
