NK road cycling is still organized in August NOW

The NK road cycling will continue this year despite the corona crisis. There will be fought on August 21, 22 and 23 for the national title on the VAM mountain near the Drentse Wijster.

The KNWU reports on Tuesday in a press release that on a track of 7.3 kilometers, all rules applicable on 1 July with regard to the corona virus can be met. The event will take place on condition that the current rules are not tightened up in the meantime.

The NK on the road could not continue on the planned date in June, after which the KNWU looked at a new time in September. That turned out to be almost impossible because of the busy international cycling calendar. It was therefore expected that no NK would be organized at all this year.

“It would have been good to explain if we could not organize the NK this year, given the social interests that had priority for a few months. But now that sporting events are allowed again, we look forward to an important competition moment for us as an association”, says general director Thorwald Veneberg of the KNWU.

“In the decision to organize anyway, it was taken into account that the NK is an important time for generating exposure for their sponsors, especially for the continental teams and the women’s teams. Especially now that there were no matches for several months.”

The NK on the road will start on August 21 with the men’s promises competition, followed by that of the women’s pros (August 22) and men’s pros (August 23). The NK time trial, which also had to be moved, was established earlier this month on October 7 in Emmen.
