The news was explained to the rest of the officials, through an internal statement signed by Patricio Hernández, executive director of Megamedia.
“Today is a sad day for all of us. Although we try to avoid it in different ways, we have finally found ourselves obliged to dismiss 142 professionals today, ”he began.
“The reason is deep and very complex: the abrupt, prolonged and aggressive drop in our advertising revenue is jeopardizing the survival of our project in the short, medium and long term“He explained.
“We have been paralyzed for many months. The studios remain empty for 4 months. We are still not sure when and under what sanitary conditions the recordings of our programs can be resumed. And what is even more serious: we may be able to record these programs, but the sales obtained will not even be able to cover their direct costs. All this has shaped the most serious crisis experienced by the media in Chile in its entire history, ”he assured.
“Three months ago we tried to avoid layoffs using the legal tools of employment protection. However, The damaging effects of this protracted economic crisis today forces us to take measures that are commensurate with the severity of the economic recession that has hit us. and that it has pushed our income to half of what we had a year ago, ”he said.
