Maritime Police Association resigns as Secretary of State for Defense – News

In a statement sent to the newsrooms, the ASPPM considers that Jorge Seguro Sanches’ statements to the newspaper Público were incompatible with his stay in office, in which he stated, regarding the surveillance of the beaches in the context of the control of the pandemic of covid-19, that “If there are marines competing for this ‘Seawatch’ project, they will be on the beaches as agents of the Maritime Police and not as military personnel”.

“These statements clearly demonstrate that you do not know either the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, the Internal Security Law, nor the Maritime Authority System, nor even the Maritime Police, which has its public security and internal security powers under the terms of the Law ”, says the note.

“In view of such public statements (…), the Prime Minister will have no choice but to dismiss him,” says the association.

At the same time, the ASPPM, which met today at an extraordinary general meeting, also protested against the reduction of salaries in May (estimated at 16%) and the conditions of access to careers, which translate into a “staff aging and small ”, maintains the administrative commission.

Among the criticisms of those responsible for the association is also the occupation of leadership and command positions by Navy officers, to the detriment of elements of the Maritime Police (PM), something that the ASPPM claims to be contrary to the organization’s personnel status.
