Lucen and Brown embark on a sunset cycle – Music

This Friday, July 3, on the Ikšķile stage, two outstanding and charismatic Latvian composers – Jānis Lūsēns and Mārtiņš Brauns – will delight the audience with a unique concert “Sunset Songs”. These concerts are planned all summer – almost until the end of August.

Singers Zigfrīds Muktupāvels and Ieva Sutugova will join both sound masters in “Sunset Songs”. Listeners will have a unique opportunity to hear improvisations and interactions from both the composers’ very popular and very little known compositions. The mood of the sunset will help to feel the start time of the concerts, which is scheduled from 9 pm. , Bauska (July 25), Talsi (July 31) and elsewhere.

Composer Jānis Lūsēns admits that the thematic choice of the program has been dictated by the recent situation: “Since the events that have affected the whole world and also Latvia, I have been far away from the bustle of people and traffic. The place I live in is special with every night sunset performances, interplay of lights, colors and shadows. I try to enjoy that moment of every night, when the wind goes down, the birdsong and the world are wrapped in a blanket of silence. These moments inspire me and give me the feeling that I am one with nature and the universe. ” Mārtiņš Brauns, on the other hand, is much more down-to-earth in his emotions: “I like the idea that we can improvise on stage with Jānis Lūsēns. There will be no showing or competition here – who is younger, better or more agile, comparisons here are unnecessary. Our collaboration will be like a contrasting dialogue in good music. ”
