Last weekend Lucasfilm did the same three new Star Wars movies announced. This includes a project by Dave Filioni (Ahsoka, The Mandalorian), which combines the interconnected stories of the The Disney Plus Series – between episodes 6 and 7 – should end with a finale. Also Daisy Ridley returns in the new film from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) als Rey return. Director James Mangold (Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny) is working on a project that explores the origins of power.
What about the other films?
In addition to the new projects, Lucasfilm presented other films some time ago that were not mentioned in the showcase at the Star Wars Celebration. This is about the Trilogy by Rian Johnson and the film project of Taika Waititi. Both have been in production for some time – but there have not been any real details yet. In an interview with Variety Kathleen Kennedy (President of Lucasfilm) spoke about the current status of these works.
Johnson trilogy still far away
Kathleen Kennedy recounts: “Rian and I are constantly in touch. He’s incredibly busy. So we’re not actively involved in anything right now because he’s doing a Glass Onion movie and then god knows what. But he really wants to come back. It’s a big time commitment – so it’s really up to him.” Rian Johnson was last for Episode 8 of Star Wars, which was received with great controversy among fans.
Taika Waititi is working on the script
It will probably take a while for Taika Waititi too: “Taika continues to work at it. He’s writing the script himself. He doesn’t really want to involve others in the process and I can understand that. He has a very unique voice. We want to protect that and what he does. But one day we will we [den Film] make.” clarified Kathleen Kennedy. Incidentally, progress on the new projects should already be much further be. However, there are no dates yet.
