After the extension of Dimitri Payet and Pope Gueye’s signature, OM is accelerating to strengthen its defensive sector. According to Provence and The team, the club is targeting Borussia Dortmund defender Leonardo Balerdi (21).
No longer used after containment
The Argentinian international (2 selections) joined Germany in January 2019 against a check for 15 million euros from Boca Juniors, where he notably rubbed shoulders with Dario Benedetto, Marseille striker. Since then, Balerdi has played more often with the Ruhr club’s reserve team, although he has made more frequent appearances recently with Jadon Sancho’s teammates.
He participated in six of the last ten games for Lucien Favre’s team during the post-containment recovery. He was even established in the last game of the season, punctuated by a heavy defeat at home against Hoffenheim (0-4).
Due to its limited financial room for maneuver, OM hopes to bring the promising young player in the form of a loan. André Villas-Boas would be at the initiative of this track which he spotted thanks to his network in Latin America. According to La Provence, a young French player also interested him in this position. He will have to decide between one or the other.
