Koalas at risk of extinction by 2050 in South East Australia

The Australian state of New South Wales is likely to see its last populations of koalas disappear by 2050. This is the alarming conclusion of a report produced for the parliament of this Australian state, explains the BBC.

Why it’s worrying. Across Australia, koalas have been severely impacted by the dramatic fires that occurred between September 2019 and February 2020. According to the report, approximately 5,000 of these marsupials would have perished in New South Wales alone.
