Fallon tweeted Tuesday that “there is no excuse for this.”
The discussion about Fallon’s routine from 20 years ago came up this week after the video reappeared online.

According to Variety, it was first posted on Twitter by a user named “chefboyohdear”. In the sketch Fallon imitates Rock as if he were on a talk show.
Fallon tweeted that it was a terrible decision to impersonate Rock, who was also part of the cast of “Saturday Night Live.”
“I am very sorry for having made that unquestionably offensive decision and I thank all of you for holding me accountable,” wrote the star of late-night television.

The Twitter user who posted the video mentioned Megyn Kelly, who was removed from the “Today” show and eventually left NBC News after suggesting in 2018 that it was okay for kids to paint their faces black for their Halloween costumes. Kelly apologized for those statements.
