It was supposed to be a three-year cruise on a luxury ship. Now they have nowhere to live

The organizers of the Life at Sea Cruises cruise presented an extraordinary offer that attracted 110 people. During the three-year journey, the ship was to visit seven continents, 140 countries and 382 ports. The launch is scheduled for Istanbul on November 1, 2023.

The price for a trip in one of the cheapest cabins is PLN 90,000. dollars, i.e. 400 thousand zloty. The most luxurious apartment on board, with a large balcony, costs PLN 109,000. dollars per year (approx. PLN 484,000).

The organizers assured that the cruise will be full of experiences and amenities. In addition to visiting the world’s greatest tourist attractions, passengers had at their disposal remote work spaces, a library, a hospital, a swimming pool and numerous dining options.

Unfortunately, problems occurred just before the cruise began. The sailing date was moved to November 11 and the destination was changed to Amsterdam. Later, the start was postponed again, and finally the organizers canceled the cruise altogether.

Some passengers are still in Istanbul, where the ship was originally supposed to depart. Many people have nowhere to return because they have sold or rented their homes to travel around the world. The company promised a refund, but in installments. This may take up to several months.

I planned to lead an extraordinary life for the next three years, and now I have nothing, one of the passengers on the failed cruise told CNN.

The organizers explain that the cruise will not take place because the ship has not been purchased. Although the company managed to find investors, they had to withdraw due to the conflict in the Middle East.

Vedat Ugurlu, owner of Miray Cruises, apologized to passengers. In a statement quoted by CNN, he announced that the company was still looking for a ship and would offer to sail at another date. However, if it takes longer, he will refund all the money.
