On 13 February this year, shortly before midnight, the VP received information about fuel theft from a Scania vehicle in Talsi.

VP Kurzeme regional officials arrived at the scene and, while inspecting the area, near the crime scene, the police officer noticed a man lying in the bushes with aids to commit a crime, such as a fuel theft hose.

The man was detained and criminal proceedings were initiated for the theft in the Talsi section of the Kurzeme Regional Administration of the VP, if it was committed while entering a vehicle.

Sherchhnova pointed out that the investigation revealed that the man had stolen 300 liters of diesel fuel, causing material damage of about 350 euros.

95 liters of diesel fuel were recovered from the man and it was returned to the victim, thus the material loss for the unrecovered diesel fuel – 205 liters – was approximately 250 euros. The man had previously been in the sight of the police and had been remanded in custody for the duration of the investigation.

Under the Criminal Law, such an offense is punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment, temporary deprivation of liberty, forced labor or a fine. At present, the investigation into the criminal proceedings has been completed and it has been handed over to the prosecutor’s office for prosecution.
