Government responds to Angela Vivancon for erratic statements about isapres

The Government responded clearly this morning to the statements by the Supreme Court spokeswoman, Angela Vivanco, regarding that according to the ruling of the highest court, the isapres should only return the surpluses to the users who sued the insurers. Vivanco made these statements in circumstance that months before she indicated that the resolution covers all affiliates, since “The hike does not refer to specific people, but it is a general hike.”

The president, Gabriel Boric, indicated that “It is important that judges speak through rulings and not through interviews,” adding “that we all understood” that the ruling was for everyone. Next, he reiterated that “the ruling must be respected.”

The Minister of Justice, Luis Cordero, meanwhile, He announced that they will request clarification from the highest court. The Secretary of State said that Vivanco’s words provide an additional precedent that must be taken cautiously and responsibly.

Carolina Toha, He asked to stop “sowing doubts” in a radio interview this morning. “This has given rise to so much debate in recent months, but this interpretation had not been on the table by anyone, by anyone, neither by the Government, nor by Parliament.”

“There were many different positions, but regarding this it seemed that everyone was in agreement, not even the isapres themselves had raised this interpretation,” he criticized.

“This issue is very complex because thousands of people are affected, public faith is at stake, compliance with what the Court clearly indicated that there were undue charges is at stake, and it is at stake that we do it in such a way that that it does not make the issue unfeasible per se”, added Carolina Tohá.

“The call that I would make to all the actors involved in this is to help solve and clear up the problems and not enlarge them and make this situation even more complex, which in itself is not easy to solve.”
