Government relaxes recreational activities over long weekend



The government relaxed the current Executive Order to allow some outdoor recreation activities, taking into consideration the celebration of the traditional long weekend for the commemoration of the Day of Remembrance, reported on Friday, the secretary of the government, Antonio Luis Pabón Batlle.

Pabón Batlle highlighted that, despite the fact that the beaches are not open and that the public spas will remain closed, Certain aquatic activities will be allowed, provided they are carried out using the method of immediate entry and exit of the water, without stopping (“keep moving”), off the beach or shore and maintaining social distance in the water; Emphasizing that once their physical activity is finished, the person must withdraw from the water.

The allowed activities are:

– Swim

– “Snorkeling”

– Rowing: Kayak, paddleboard and canoe

– Surf in all its modalities (surfing, shore surfing, morey boogie)

– Windsurfing

– Walk, run, jog

– Calisthenics

– Bird watching and photography

– Recreational sailing by boat or sailboat, (except jet skis or water skis)

– Recreational fishing in the catch and release modality, from navigation vehicles. Includes saltwater and inland water fishing.

– The use of the ramps will be allowed as long as an arrival order is maintained, they will remain in their vehicles until it is their turn. The crowding of people in these areas will not be allowed and social distance and the use of masks must be maintained once they get off the vehicles at all times.

In addition, the official clarified that the sale of fuel to vessels will be allowed.

However, both the curfew and the social distancing established in Executive Order 2020-038 in force until May 25 remain in force, as well as the one that comes into force next Tuesday. The agglomeration of people in public or private places is not and will not be allowed as a measure to avoid the spread and contagion of COVID-19, it was indicated.

“It is important to express that this determination to make the Executive Order more flexible responds to allowing a series of aquatic activities that people traditionally practice during this weekend,” said the secretary.

On the other hand, it was highlighted that the following activities will be prohibited: the opening of fishing clubs, gazebos or social gatherings that involve the gathering of people in them; anchoring between boats (rafting); anchoring or approaching less than 100 meters from any beach or shore; street vendor operation.

Likewise, Pabón Batlle added that the Corps of Vigilantes of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) will be in coordination with the Police Bureau and the Municipal Police to promote compliance with the provisions. Likewise, it established that, in the case of boats, their owners will be responsible in case of non-compliance with the rules established for this weekend.
