The Tesla Model 3 becomes a Cabriolet. Trying to use Tesla’s configurator is pointless, however, because it is the conversion of a company specializing in such vehicles. Newport Convertible Engineering (NC) has also previously converted the Tesla Model S into a convertible.
Job market
Since the roof of the Tesla Model 3 contributes to the stability of the car and also to the safety of the occupants, extensive modifications have to be made if it is to be cut off.
The Motortrend website told NC that additional body reinforcements were needed to maintain the car’s rigidity. As with previous golf convertibles, a handle was installed as a roll bar. This should disturb purists, but this measure is essential for the safety of passengers if the electric car falls on its side in an accident or even overturns. A bracket suddenly flipped out in such an emergency, which other manufacturers provide, could not be constructed.
The convertible top ends up behind the rear seats when folded back, but it cannot be stowed away but only covered. The trunk remains completely intact.
The conversion is manual and not exactly cheap. If you want a mechanical hood, you pay $ 29,500 for all work. Converting the Model 3 to a convertible with an electric hood costs as much as $ 39,500. In both cases, customers have to contribute the Model 3.
Tesla Model S also as a station wagon
In the UK, the startup Qwest converted a Tesla Model S into a station wagon. Tesla itself does not manufacture station wagons, but at the request of one of its customers, engineers and designers from Norfolk in the UK converted a Model S accordingly. The customer wanted the electric combi because he needed more space for his dog.
