Egypt’s Refusal to Supply Missiles to Russia and Calls for Weapons Transfer to Ukraine: The Latest Updates

According to the publication, Cairo had previously planned to supply missiles to Russia. But because of Washington’s appeals, the authorities refused such supplies.

Journalists write that after that, American officials, including US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, asked Egypt to supply weapons to Ukraine, wanting to help our country overcome the shortage of ammunition.

As noted in the WSJ, Austin personally asked for military assistance to Ukraine in March during a meeting with Egyptian President Abdul-Fattah Khalil Al-Sisi in Cairo.

Such a request came to nothing, and since then, US officials have repeatedly called on Egypt to transfer weapons to our country.

According to an unnamed US official, these are artillery shells, anti-tank missiles, air defense systems and small arms.

“In a conversation with US officials, Egypt did not give a clear answer to this request, but an Egyptian official has privately stated that Egypt has no plans to send arms“, – writes the publication.

At the same time, the official representative of the US State Department stressed that Egypt acts as a partner that is working to achieve stability and lasting peace in Ukraine.

Rumors about sending Egyptian missiles to Russia

Recall that back in April, The Washington Post wrote that Egypt was preparing to transfer up to 40,000 missiles to Russia. They wanted to make deliveries secret.

Later, John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, said that the United States did not see signs of Egypt’s military assistance to Russia.
