Covid-19: 2 to 8% of patients never develop antibodies

A new study published on the medRxiv site reports new elements of response concerning the development of immunity in patients infected with Covid-19.

An immune response and Covid-19 study

A new study published on the medRvix site sheds light on the development of immunity in patients who have been infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the Covid-19 disease.

It was conducted on 177 patients diagnosed positive for Covid-19 with a PCR test, up to 60 days after the test. As a result, 2 to 8.5% of patients never develop antibodies to SARS-CoV-2.

The higher the infection, the higher the chances of developing antibodies

It also emerges from this study that the production of antibodies is all the more important as the symptoms of the disease have been strong in the patient. In fact, people who have developed a severe infection, especially the elderly or those suffering from chronic diseases (obesity, hypertension, etc.) are more likely to develop antibodies than asymptomatic people.

Researchers suggest that “It could be because the immune response works hand in hand with the inflammatory response, or that a higher viral load more stimulates inflammation and the production of antibodies”. They report, however, that it “It is possible that these patients [séronéatifs, ndlr] have had limited immune responses to other antigens or transmitted by T cells ».

It also emerges from this study that the production of antibodies is all the more important as the symptoms of the disease have been strong in the patient.

A recent study published on the medRxiv site reports that almost 2 to 8.5% of the patients studied did not develop antibodies after being infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the Covid-19 disease. . It also turns out that people who have developed a severe infection are more likely to develop antibodies than asymptomatic people.
