Coronavirus: Madrid prepares for a possible regrowth: collects 45-day masks and designs a new hospital | Madrid

With the Community of Madrid becoming the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in Spain, and after entering phase 1 of the de-escalation, the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso is preparing for a possible outbreak of the epidemic in the region. This was explained this Thursday by the regional president in a full-fledged Assembly, where sparks have sparked in her dialogues with almost all opposition spokespersons.

“We are in an ideal situation to start reactivating the economy while the health system is strengthened, with an elasticity plan to double and triple the number of ICU and hospital beds in case there is a regrowth,” Díaz Ayuso answered. Rocío Monasterio, spokesperson for Vox, who has accused the “criminal” government of Pedro Sánchez and Pablo Iglesias of “causing the death of 30,000 people”.

“We are finalizing the location and construction of a new emergency hospital to replace Ifema,” continued the regional president. “We have already brought 1,200 tons of material, and we left 45 days of stock in case there was a regrowth,” he added. And he assured: “The contracts of all the toilets are being renewed, of 10,100 new contracts, 9,934 are already working.”

More than 15,000 people have died since March 8 in Madrid with coronaviruses or similar symptoms. Health professionals have lived the majority of the crisis without protective equipment, facing strenuous shifts, and in constant danger: thousands have been infected. At the same time, the more than 70,000 contagions detected have exceeded the capacities of the hospital system, forcing private healthcare to embark in the effort to fight the virus, and to open a temporary hospital in Ifema to attend to the sick.

Overcome the peak of the disease, Madrid tries to resume normality. The Executive fears the effects of confinement, which has paralyzed almost all productive activity, in the future of the economy. Consequently, the regional government has pushed to the maximum to enter phase 1, and start the reactivation, when there are still dozens of hospitalizations and infections every day. No regional manager, therefore, rules out a new outbreak of the virus. The more normality returns, and the more citizens move, the greater the possibilities, everyone agrees. The Executive tries to plan so that what happens in March and April does not happen again: lack of protective equipment, overflowing hospitals and unbearable death and infection statistics.
