In recent weeks, an outbreak of the coronavirus was diagnosed in the rehabilitation and geriatrics department at the ZNA Jan Palfijn hospital in Merksem. That says the regional channel ATV and hospital network ZNA confirms the news. Thirteen staff and 13 patients tested positive, but no one would have been in a bad position.

The infection was first diagnosed in a couple of patients. “We then did general testing in the department,” says ZNA spokesman Tom Van de Vreken. “The staff who tested positive were sent home. Those who showed symptoms are still at home. Those who did not show any symptoms can now get back to work. We isolated the patients who tested positive. Nobody has ended up in intensive care. ”
ZNA emphasizes that by no means all positive cases were actually ill from the virus, but asymptomatic cases can also infect others. Due to the outbreak, there is still a visit ban and a hospital admission stop. “We will organize a new test on Friday and if there are no new cases, we can relax those measures again,” says Van de Vreken.
