The official death toll from the coronavirus has risen to 6,132. In the past week, RIVM received 19 deaths. It is the first time that the institute has released a weekly update. Until Tuesday last week, this happened daily, but because of the low number of infections, this has been adjusted.
Since July 1, 7 people have died nationwide. In the seven days before, 10 people died, and in the previous seven days, 18. The other 12 ‘new deaths’ died earlier, but this has only been reported to RIVM in the past seven days. Another 3 people were found to have died on April 2. The total for that day thus comes to 176 deaths, making it the deadliest day of the outbreak. On March 31, 175 people died.
The actual number of deaths is likely to be higher because not everyone has been tested. RIVM only reports the deceased people who have been diagnosed with the virus.
