Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari was chosen as the best female athlete in the PB Djarum 2020 League. The player born in Ngawi, May 17, 2006, won the U17 category, after defeating Ruzana with a score of 21-8, 20-22, 21-19.
“It is very satisfying and unexpected, because if you look at it in quality, Ruzana is above, and if you play before, he always wins. But today he never thought he could win,” Mutiara explained.
Apart from Mutiara, another PB Djarum athlete who was named the best player, Iqbal Asrullah. Down in two categories, the mixed U17 youth doubles and the combined men’s doubles (U17 + U19 + Adults), Iqbal successfully won two titles.
The PB Djarum League itself was held because of the lack of badminton tournaments during the Covid-19 pandemic. Located in GOR Djarum Jati, Kudus, there were 16 categories that were held and the total prize reached Rp 105,200,000.
PB Djarum’s Head Coach, Fung Permadi said he was satisfied with the appearance of the athletes in this tournament. Despite the pandemic, the ability of their students has not decreased significantly.
“They were able to show a kind of impingement, because they had not followed the match for a long time. They were so excited even though in one day they had to play many times,” said Fung.
“Obviously in the future I hope that athletes can continue their enthusiasm for training, because this is also a place for preparation after completing a pandemic, children will be faced with a busy tournament,” explained Fung.
