Cole Caufield in the top 3 draft hopes

Montreal Canadiens hope Cole Caufield had a very good first campaign in the American university rankings (NCAA) and it did not go unnoticed.

The little striker comes third in the list of the 50 best hopes in the National Hockey League published by The Athletic, Monday.

“At some point, you have to trust your assessment of his skills and his production, which has always been there, rather than continuing to doubt him.” Scott Wheeler wrote about the 19-year-old American.

Forwards Dylan Cozens of the Buffalo Sabers and Trevor Zegras of the Anaheim Ducks are ahead of him respectively in the standings.

Another Canadian prospect, defenseman Alexander Romanov (48th), is in the top 50.

“I believe it is important that Canadians and their supporters moderate their expectations of Romanov,” wrote Wheeler.

“He’ll be a good defender because of his decision making, skating and robustness, but don’t expect him to be on a first wave of power play or a big point producer . “
