“On Memorial Day we pay tribute to the fallen heroes and appreciate the sacrifice in defense of the nation. On the occasion of this date, visits to cemeteries will be allowed, taking all the protection and security measures established in the protocol designed by the Department of Health. Health is paramount, so I urge you to honor our heroes without neglecting us. The fight against COVID-19 is everyone’s responsibility, at all times, ”said Vázquez Garced in a statement.

For his part, the Veteran’s Attorney, Agustín Montañez, explained that in the morning hours of Monday, the recording of the “Moment of Remembrance” will take place, a brief act that serves to honor our fallen heroes tempered by the conditions imposed on care to COVID-19. The act will be recorded to spread on social networks.

In this recording, which will be held at the State Veterans Cemetery in Aguadilla, only the people invited for it will participate and all protocols for social distancing and personal protection will be followed. Once the activity ends, the cemetery will be opened, in a limited way, following the rules of the established protocol.

As part of the protocol, designed by the Department of Health, cemetery administrators must ensure the health and safety of all citizens who visit them, as well as workers.

As a mandatory requirement, everyone who visits a cemetery must use masks. Similarly, a distance of six feet must be guaranteed between each person to ensure social distancing.

The protocol establishes that the visit time to the pantheons, graves, niches and / or columbariums will be between 15 to 30 minutes maximum, per family. Cemetery administrators should ensure that access control measures are taken to their premises, to ensure that crowding is not encouraged and the flow of visitors is continuous.

As part of the protocol – established for both public and private cemeteries – the cemetery must have sanitary services in optimal conditions, providing soap and water, in order to ensure that any visitor or employee can wash their hands properly, according to the established recommendations. to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
