The Center for Investigation and Development of Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG) Yogyakarta revealed there are changes in the body Mount Merapi. The mountain on the border of Central Java (Central Java) and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) is experiencing distension.
“The current status of Merapi is still on alert. Indeed, there is a bloating of his body, but his speed is 0.5 centimeters per day,” said Head of Yogyakarta BPPTKG Hanik Humaida told reporters at the Merapi Volcano Observation Post, Jrakah Village, Selo District, Boyolali, Wednesday (07/08/2020).
The current distension, said Hanik, is still small. But vigilance is still needed. Bloat can be an indication of an eruption or lava dome.
“So the inflation is still small. But we still have to be vigilant. It means that at any time this indication can also occur eruptions like yesterday (June 21), such explosive or growing lava dome. Yes, we keep watching. Data continues we convey every day, through various media that we have about Merapi’s current activities, “explained Hanik.
According to Hanik, inflation or inflation Mount Merapi occurred since pascaletusan on June 21, 2020. Then from June 22 until now the bubbling on the body of Mount Merapi continues to occur 0.5 cm per day.
“This (the inflation rate) is small. When compared to 2020, the meter counts are for 2010. So in comparison, if in 2010 towards Kaliurang it lasts up to 130 centimeters (1.3 meters) in one month. If (now) this “Since June 22, only 0.5 centimeters per day,” he explained.
