Bauska municipality will receive 6,600 euros in compensation for the maintenance of 18 Bulgarians – in Latvia

To compensate for the expenses incurred in providing accommodation for 18 Bulgarian nationals during the Covid-19 quarantine, Bauska municipality will be allocated 6,629 euros, the government decided today.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, 18 Bulgarians were refused entry by the Lithuanian authorities in April, one of whom was confirmed to have Covid-19.

The Bulgarians were quarantined and stayed in the premises and territory of the former Mežotne boarding high school.

From April 5 to April 21, the municipality of Bauska provided accommodation for Bulgarian nationals, as well as provided them with the necessary hygiene products, drinking water, food and other basic household goods.

As a result, 6,629 euros were spent from the municipal budget. Given that these costs were unforeseen expenses for the municipality, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (MEPRD) encouraged the municipality to compensate for the losses.

The funds will be taken from the state budget program “Contingency Funds”.

It has already been reported that Bulgarian citizens entered Latvia on April 6. One of them was diagnosed with Covid-19, as a result of which the travelers were not allowed to transit into Lithuania and stayed for some time in the premises of Mežotne boarding secondary school, where they were quarantined.

On April 21, Bulgarian nationals were escorted to the Latvian-Lithuanian border crossing in Grenctal and left the country.
