The Barcelona sport already has its plan lack of confidence. The return of the sports activity will be “progressive, specific and controlled”, as announced yesterday by the Councilor for Sports of the City Council, David Escudé. This plan highlights the reopening of the outdoor pools with the arrival of the summer season. We will have to wait until phase 3 as long as the health situation allows it. If the circumstances arise, the municipal government would like it to be the week of June 15-22. “We are working with the managers of the facilities to match the reopening with what was the traditional closure of schools, we will see what will finally be the possible date and the appropriate capacity conditions in this new normal,” said the Councilor for Sports.
The first municipal swimming pools discovered that expect to receive bathers will be those that are not part of a municipal sports center (CEM) or are physically separated. This is the case of the Montjuïc, Llac-Parc de la Creueta del Coll, CEM Guinardó, La Clota-CEM Olímpics Vall d’Hebron and Llac-CEM Can Dragó pools. “These facilities could be the outpost of the other pools,” said Escudé.
The City Council guarantees that the Cursa de la Mercè will be held and studies various scenarios
In parallel, the municipal managers work in the organization of sporting events. One of the main novelties is that Barcelona will guarantee the celebration of the Cursa de la Mercè, scheduled for September 20. The Councilor for Sports did not give specific details of the format of the race, but advanced that several scenarios are contemplated and the final proposal will be based on what the health authorities establish at that time. “We will make our Barcelona model of popular races,” he added. It does not even rule out that there may be more participants than in previous editions. Last year more than 12,000 runners flooded the streets of the city.
On the other hand, and with the entrance to the current phase 1Barcelona residents will be able to start practicing sports in other spaces. In this period, different urban sports parks in the city will be opened, as well as petanque courts. Starting June 1, outdoor sports facilities will be available to practice tennis, paddle tennis or climbing in La Foixarda. In addition, beach facilities such as the Espai Mar, the Municipal Nautical Base and the Municipal Sailing Center will return to function. In this phase the exercise will be carried out individually and the changing rooms will remain closed.
Sport normality will gradually recover in the city and in the Phase 2 Basic individual training will begin in federated non-professional leagues. In this sense, the athletics tracks, the Horta velodrome, the Foixarda Municipal Riding School or the Montjuïc municipal archery range will come back into operation. In these spaces the changing rooms will continue to be closed.
In the third and final phase, the 41 municipal sports centers will recover their activity with capacity control measures, as well as the soccer fields, the pavilions and the sports courts. “We are prepared to open the facilities and re-organize events, adapting to the protocols and recommendations of each moment,” Escudé concluded.
