According to TAIEPED information, the new 25-year concession contract for the Attica Road to the GEK TERNA group was signed by the competent ministers of National Economy & Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis, and Infrastructure & Transport, Christos Staikouras.
The contract gives five months to complete the financial closing of the agreement and to pay the price of 3.27 billion euros which will activate the start of the concession, i.e. until February 12, 2025.
According to information, this period is considered necessary for all the prerequisites of the contract to be completed by the contracting parties and can be extended if both sides agree. Something similar also happened with the signing of the contract for the Egnatia Road, for which the five-month period ended at the end of August but the financial closure has been postponed.
The CEO of TAIPED, Dimitris Politis, speaking in the OT studio at the 88th TIF, had said that within the week the contract for Attiki Odos with GEK TERNA will be signed. As Mr. Politis pointed out, the process for the Attica Road “ran” very quickly for Greek standards. “Very proper preliminary work was also done by the concessionaire, we ran quite quickly, obviously the public administration wants it, this project must be done,” he said characteristically, adding that it is the first time that a concessionaire has been succeeded. As he explained, “it is not very easy, the road does not stop. On the date that the succession takes place, the operation for the consumer should not be disrupted. “There is a good experiment to see that this will work properly.”
On October 5, the public will receive the road axis, after 25 years of operation, to then proceed to the intermediate stage of operation with the prevailing shape of the existing consortium of the project controlled by the technical companies Aktor Concessions and Avax. The ministry estimates that Attiki Odos will have a gap in operation that will be a little over 4 months, which will be covered by the interim contract.
The manner in which the “baton” will be handed over to the intermediate concession holder will be decided within the next few days, with the information stating that this role will not be assumed by TAIPED, which had been considered for Attiki Odos to fall on behalf of the public.
According to reports, the reason is because the Attica road is a complex project consisting of many contracts that would be impossible to assign in a reasonable time to another entity. As an example, they bring the 400,000 subscribers of the Attica Road, which are considered an insurmountable obstacle to pass so quickly and for such a short period of time to TAIPED.
