Argenta closes 143 ATMs after another digital squat attempt

Attempts were again made to break in digitally at Argenta ATMs, this time in Roeselare and Ingelmunster.

The bank reports this in a statement. On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July, attempts were made to infiltrate the computer that controls the ATMs in Roeselare and Ingelmunster. The 143 aircraft of the same type will be shut down until replacement by new aircraft later this year.

On June 27 and 28 it has already been in Borsbeek and in Ranst tried to break into the computer of an ATM, in order to empty the cash drawer. Argenta subsequently had preventively shut down 143 ATMs of the same type. Administrator Diebold had investigated the attempted squat and increased security. But that turns out to be insufficient.

Last year, the bank was already the victim of an explosive attack. This led to the bank having to close all its ATMs for a while. Argenta reopened its vending machines, but part of it remained closed for good.
