After a meat scandal at Tönnies: Lidl, Aldi & Co. are drawing the first consequences

Aldi reacts similarly. The discounter confirmed to CHIP that the cooperation with Tönnies will continue to exist, but there are restrictions.

“Basically, we continue to source various meat products from our supplier Tönnies. However, no goods are currently being delivered to us from the Rheda-Wiedenbrück location,” said a company spokeswoman.

“In order to avoid delivery bottlenecks due to the current situation, we are working closely with our suppliers to ensure the supply of the corresponding meat products at the usual high level,” emphasizes the press office.

Rewe and Edeka had also reported to the media that they did not want to buy meat from the slaughterhouse near Gütersloh for the time being. The discounter branches Penny and Netto Marken-Discount are also affected.

Meat products from Tönnies are available in some branches, but CHIP learned that they do not come from the Rheda-Wiedenbrück facility. Tönnies has several production facilities throughout Germany, including the Tönnies slaughter companies in Weißenfels, Sögel, Kellinghusen, Badbergen, Legden and Meppen.
