MEXICO – Atlas beat Mazatlán 1-0 in the second match of the Cup for Mexico. With a goal from Jesús Gómez in the final part of the match, the red and black team obtained its first three points in the preseason contest.
In the first half, Camilo Vargas sent a long stroke to Javier Correa who took a left-footed shot himself that was saved by Sebastián Sosa.
Minutes later, Fernando Aristeguieta received a filtered pass that failed to impact in good shape and failed to put the 0-1 on the scoreboard. In the second part, the Rojinegros again lacked forcefulness, since Lorenzo Reyes and Jairo Torres lost the opportunity to send their team to the front.
Miguel Sansores left the field of play due to injury, which is why the third goalkeeper, Daniel Gutiérrez, had to enter, since another element that had previous activity could not enter.
In the final part of the match, in a corner kick charge, the youth squad Jesús Gómez rose so that in a header he placed the 1-0 for the red and black team, which ended up being the final marker.
Atlas reached three units and keeps alive their hope of accessing the next phase, while the Mazatleco draw will depend on the result between Chivas and Tigres.
Mazatlán will return to the activity next Saturday, June 11, when it faces Chivas; Atlas will do the same when he faces Tigers on Sunday, June 12.
