200 extra beds for intensive care, a total of 1350

On paper, there are 1150 IC beds in the Netherlands, in practice 1028. Some of the beds are not in use due to staff shortages. There is one ICU nurse per two beds.

In total there are almost 3838 ICU nurses, not all of whom work full-time. More than 300 extra full-time jobs are needed to expand to 1350 IC beds, that is 406 ICU nurses.

In addition, some 3,800 support staff are needed (partly nurses and partly non-nurses, who will mainly work in nursing wards).

Extending to 1700 IC beds requires an additional 1726 ICU nurses and approximately 4800 additional nurses.
